Francisco Chinchon, one of Hola OPS’ newest executive advisors, joins us from the Ministry of Finance where he is the (acting) assistant deputy minister of the Financial Services Policy Division with the Ministry of Finance.

In this role, Francisco is responsible for developing and implementing government initiatives that support a high-performing financial services sector while ensuring that investors and consumers remain adequately protected.

Francisco joined Hola OPS to empower the Latinx community and provide a safe space for its members to continue to grow and develop their careers in the OPS and Canada. A proud member of the Latinx community himself, Francisco was born and raised in Chile and moved to Canada in 2007 to complete an MBA at the Schulich School of Business.

Back then, Francisco was married and had a newborn. The plan was always to move back to Chile as soon as he completed his graduate studies. However, the young family loved their experience in Canada so much that they decided to stay and build a life here. The financial recession in 2008 only strengthened their decision to stay.

Francisco believes that employee network groups like Hola OPS are instrumental in helping people feel comfortable and providing a support network to their members. He says that “there are people who may not yet feel that comfortable in English. These employee network groups also provide a safe environment for people who may be feeling homesick or who feel that their life in Canada is different from their previous experience. I think there is value there, and that these communities provide a common ground where people can relate and help build each other up.”

As one of his duties as executive advisor for Hola OPS, Francisco is already offering his perspective on the executive team’s strategy and initiatives.

“It’s important for Hola OPS members to understand that there are so many opportunities out there. If you’re willing to do your best every time, the organization will be receptive to your efforts. I think that’s an important concept. At the end of the day Hola OPS is trying to open up opportunities and inspire its members to reach their full potential,” said Francisco.

Developing staff for the future and ensuring that they have all the necessary tools to succeed in their jobs has always been part of his style. “I tell my team that my primary job is to coach them and lift them up to be able to do better things.”

When asked what superhero power he would like to have if he could choose one, he answered “immortality” so that he could do more fun things without having to worry too much about the consequences.

We thank Francisco Chinchon for all his efforts and look forward to working with him to continue building Hola OPS.
